About us
IA Consulting Engineering S.r.l. was founded on 27 July 2015 in Rome, at Via Pio Foà 55, by partners and professionals who already had years of joint practice behind them, coming from Ingegneri Associati, Ingegneri Associati Infrastrutture and Idroesse Engineering.
The aim has always been one: to build an engineering practice integrated across every construction sector, able to treat a project as a single organism — from the founding ground to the most sophisticated services — without the fractures that arise when each discipline works on its own.
The staff numbers more than ten engineers and architects specialised in the various disciplines, supported by qualified technicians. Each commission is assigned to a design team built around the specific features of the project and coordinated by the technical management: this is how a small practice manages to guarantee quality and delivery times on projects of widely differing scale.
The firm is listed and registered on the consultancy rosters of international organisations. It has its own structural analysis unit for design and checking and an automated drawing production system, and keeps up to date across every field of civil engineering. The partners and professionals have carried out design work in the building, railway, motorway, airport and marine sectors, in Italy and abroad.
Today the firm works mainly as a specialist technical practice serving the engineering companies holding the design appointments — among others VIA Ingegneria, BTP Ingegneria, PINI Group, CODING and SINTAGMA — developing the models, analyses and drawings for their projects in a BIM environment. Alongside this the firm takes on direct appointments for design, construction supervision and health and safety coordination.
What we do
An interdisciplinary, integrated service, from the technical and economic feasibility study through to as-built.
- Road and motorway infrastructure — road alignment, bridges and viaducts, bored and cut-and-cover tunnels, ancillary structures, utility diversions and drainage works
- Railway and metro infrastructure — track alignment, railway bridges and viaducts, platform levels, tunnels, structures and utility diversions
- Civil buildings and stations — railway and metro stations, residential and commercial buildings, landscaping and furnishing of public spaces
- Architectural and structural modelling — analysis models, information models, construction drawings and shop drawings
- Quantities, specifications and tendering — bills of quantities and particular specifications
- Design review and validation — design checking for validation purposes, with an independent analysis unit
- BIM design and digital modelling — structural, architectural and MEP modelling, Scan to BIM and digital modelling of existing structures
- Construction supervision and safety — construction supervision and health and safety coordination during design and execution
- Works on existing buildings — seismic upgrading and retrofit, including CRM composite systems in GFRP, demolition and reconstruction
- Energy plants and infrastructure — structural works for production, storage and distribution plants, including hydrogen facilities
BIM design and site support
The firm develops its commissions in a BIM environment, from the information model to drawing production, and supports clients and contractors in the digital management of the construction stage.
The model is not a duplicate of the drawings: it is the reference document from which drawings, quantities and checks are derived. This reduces inconsistencies between disciplines, makes every variation traceable and allows the works to be checked before they are built, not after.
- Architectural, structural and infrastructure modelling, with deliverables in the open IFC format
- Coordination between disciplines and clash detection before the construction stage
- Extraction of quantities from the model and linking to specification items
- Preparation of the BEP and information management plans to UNI 11337 and ISO 19650
- Common data environment (CDE) and management of approval workflows
- Support for BIM site management: programming and progress tracking on the model, variation management, checking and as-built modelling
The same approach is applied to checking and validation: model-based checking, carried out by the in-house analysis unit, works alongside traditional document review.

Technical director
An engineer and director of very long standing, he is the technical continuity of the firm: he has led the design of the most demanding projects undertaken by the group, in Italy and abroad, from road and rail infrastructure to stations and civil buildings. Under his direction each commission is given a design team built around the features of the work, and every drawing passes through a single control standard. He is the reference point to which the practice owes the consistency of its projects and the trust of its clients.
